A Note for Visitors to Portlaoise
If you arrive with a smartphone and the hope of finding where an ancestor once lived, ask someone to direct you to the Market Square;
stand with your back to the wall of St Peter’s Church, look ahead and you will see, more or less,
what is in my first photograph. Now cross the street and follow the houses on your left; through the Square,
down Main Street and Bridge Street until you reach SS Peter and Paul’s Church at the junction of the Dublin and Stradbally roads.
Cross the street and walk back up the other side until you’re back in the Market Square. Go n-éirí an bóthar libh.
